The mission of The Hingham House is to serve the community of Rockland,Mass by providing a sober living environment for women making the transition from addiction to recovery.
The newer and more realistic look at sober houses is a lot more tangible. Now, sober houses are primarily properties owned by a third party, separate from treatment centers. They are a cushion for recently discharged clients between the protection of treatment and the real world.
When the time finally came to move out on my own, I possessed the life skills and confidence in my recovery to maintain my routine without supervision. I followed the suggestions, obtained a year of sobriety, and learned how to successfully be an adult. A sober house will work if you allow it to. I believe it is a crucial and priceless step in the recovery process. It not only saved my life, it gave me one.
The Hingham house wasn't started for it to be like any other sober house. The Hingham house was started after my sister and mother had gone through about a dozen sober house in three years. The main reason for that is because at the time they just didn't want to help themselves. The people running the houses also played a huge role in that. Most of the houses were just garbage including the people running them. Everyone from the investors to the managers just didn't care and took advantage of people. I saw everything from managers stealing individuals rent to managers stealing individuals’ prescriptions and selling them to individuals in the house. I opened this house to do the complete opposite. In my eyes people in recovery are the most vulnerable people and to take advantage of them makes me sick. I opened a house to treat the residents of the house just how I would want my mother and sister to be treated living in a sober house. I set rules and policy's and I stick by them.
